Our estate grown 2013 Late Harvest Riesling is semi-sweet. Our 2013 estate grown Late Harvest Riesling has aromas of ripe Bartlett pear, leading the way to an explosion of flavours – Logan berry, lychee, mango.
Rick VanSickle – 92 points: I love the nose of sweet summer peach, apricot, poached pear and mango. It’s made with an incredible 56 g/l of residual sugar but the high acids help maintain good balance. It shows lovely tropical fruits that ex-hibit both richness and vibrancy. Simply delicious desert-style semi-sweety to be enjoyed with cheese, pate or old fashioned apple pie.
We wanted to (re-)introduce a Late Harvest wine that would be versatile enough to pair with a savoury first course or sweet dessert. We handpicked 3.8 tons of Riesling on November 26th from our 5-acre Riesling block containing clones 21b and 49. This was more than a month later than the harvest for our Dry Riesling. Harvested at 25 Brix, we aimed to preserve some sweetness. A slow and cool ferment in stainless steel tanks preserved the soft acidity and fruity character of the grapes.
Food Pairing Notes
Enjoy as an aperitif (with cheese, paté and crackers) or a companion to after dinner treats (old fashioned apple pie with vanilla ice cream or custard with fresh red berry saus).
